Presidential Message

Tamar Rodney, PhD, RN, PMHNP-BC, CNE, FAAN
President, International Network for Doctoral Education in Nursing

Thank you for visiting the International Network for Doctoral Education in Nursing (INDEN) website. As your President, I am honored to serve an organization dedicated to advancing excellence in doctoral nursing education across the globe.

Our vision is clear: to create a global community where doctoral students, scholars, and educators are connected, supported, and inspired. Doctoral education in nursing is not only about producing research, it is about cultivating leaders who bring evidence and innovation into clinical care, who advocate for equity in health policy, and who mentor the next generation of nurses worldwide.

The challenges facing global health are immense, from pandemics and displacement to inequities and climate change. Yet, the power of doctoral-prepared nurses lies in their dual strengths: the ability to generate rigorous research that addresses these issues and the capacity to translate that knowledge into advanced clinical practice that improves outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.

INDEN is deeply committed to engaging doctoral students across every region of the world, ensuring their voices are heard and their contributions valued. We believe that fostering these connections will enrich nursing scholarship globally and expand the reach of innovative, culturally responsive solutions to health challenges.

This is a moment of opportunity for nursing. By investing in doctoral education, supporting the growth of emerging nurse scientists and clinical leaders, and creating spaces for international collaboration, we can shape a healthier and more equitable future.

I invite you to join us, whether as a student, educator, or practicing scholar, in advancing the mission of INDEN. Together, we can strengthen our collective impact and celebrate the essential role of doctoral-prepared nurses in research, practice, and leadership.

In addition to the important work that we do to promote doctoral education, many of us also are feeling a need to help provide care and alleviate suffering in areas of particular need right now such as the Ukraine, Syria, specific populations in need in Africa, or at the Mexico border—as well as other locations across the globe.
